Federal Immigration Custody Outcomes
An Atchison County booking may close because another authority takes custody. ICE can receive a person for civil immigration detention. The U.S. Marshals Service can move a federal pretrial defendant through contract facilities. BOP handles many sentenced federal prisoners. Each agency answers a different question.
A sheriff entry such as “released to ICE” or “released to USMS” describes release from local legal control. It does not say the person entered the community. The destination field points to the next custodian, and that agency’s locator, office, or case record must be checked.
ICE custody can end in community release, transfer, or removal, but the current public locator is not a full historical release archive. A person who disappears from that locator may have been released, moved, removed, mismatched, or omitted because of a coverage rule. Contact the responsible Enforcement and Removal Operations office for confirmation.
Classify Atchison Federal Custody
Start with the record closest to the handoff. The Atchison County Jail release event may name a receiving authority. The court docket may show a federal detainer, warrant, commitment, or separate case. Do not choose ICE, USMS, or BOP based only on the word “federal.”
| Authority | Custody role | First public route |
|---|---|---|
| ICE | Civil immigration detention and removal operations | ICE Online Detainee Locator, then responsible ERO office |
| U.S. Marshals Service | Federal pretrial detention, transport, and contract placement | Federal court docket and Marshals district route |
| Bureau of Prisons | Federal prison sentences and certain contract custody | BOP Inmate Locator |
| Atchison County Sheriff | Local booking and transfer event | County booking and release record |
The Atchison County released inmate search path helps identify whether the trail begins with a county, Missouri state, federal, or immigration event. Once the receiving authority is known, stay with that system until the next custody change is documented.
Note: “Federal hold” is not specific enough to prove ICE, USMS, BOP, or release into the community.
Search ICE Custody from Atchison
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is designed for current immigration detention. It supports an A-number and country-of-birth search or biographical fields such as name, birth data, and country of birth. An A-number is usually the stronger key because names can vary in spelling and order.
- Choose the A-number route when the identifier and country of birth are known.
- Otherwise enter the full biographical fields exactly and try supported spelling forms.
- Compare the identity and current detention information before relying on a result.
- If the person no longer appears, do not label the person released.
- Contact the responsible ERO or detention-management office and ask for the current status or proper confirmation route.
If the public locator does not load, return to the official interface or contact the responsible ERO office. A web access error says nothing about an individual’s custody and cannot be treated as a no-result.
ICE does not provide the Atchison County release time or local transfer record. Ask the sheriff for those fields. Then use ICE to trace the custody that followed the handoff.
Missing ICE Results Need Confirmation
A current-custody locator is not a historical archive. A no-result can have several meanings, and release is only one. The person may have transferred between facilities, been removed, entered another authority’s custody, used a different spelling, fallen outside public coverage, or experienced a data delay.
- A-number
- An immigration identifier used with country of birth for a more exact locator search.
- ERO
- ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, the office route for detention and removal-status confirmation.
- Removal
- An immigration outcome that must not be described as release into Atchison County.
- Detainer
- A request or hold connected to another authority, which can redirect a local release.
When contacting ERO, provide only the identifiers needed to distinguish the person and ask a narrow question. Request the current detention status, whether custody transferred, and which office or facility now has responsibility. If the office cannot disclose a detail, ask for the proper records or case route.
Do not use the BOP locator as proof that ICE custody ended. “Not in BOP custody” may simply mean the person was never a BOP inmate. Likewise, an ICE no-result does not answer a federal criminal sentence.
USMS Custody After Atchison Transfer
The U.S. Marshals Service custody and detention program handles federal prisoners before and during court proceedings, transport, and placement in contract facilities. A person may therefore have a federal case without appearing in BOP. This is common enough that a missing BOP result should trigger a custody-role check, not a release claim.
If the Atchison County record says the person went to USMS, locate the federal case. PACER provides federal court records, including the Western District of Missouri docket when that is the relevant court. Search by case number or party name, verify identity, and read detention orders, appearances, judgment, sentence, and later release or revocation entries.
A docket entry may explain the legal basis, but it is not always the physical movement record. The Marshals Service or contract custodian controls transport and detention details. A court release order may also be followed by an immigration detainer or another sovereign’s warrant.
When the federal sentence begins in BOP, move to the Federal Bureau of Prisons release search. That separate locator can show a historical “Released” status and date. ICE and USMS do not share that historical BOP function.
Atchison Federal Transfer Record
The county record should establish the end of local control. Ask the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office whether the person remains held on the identified booking. If not, request the release date and time, release type or authority, receiving agency, and destination when recorded and open.
The sheriff’s official contact is 511 W. Clay, Rock Port, MO 64482, 660-744-6271, fax 660-744-6274. No verified records email, formal request form, administrative hours, or fixed local fee was found. Confirm the custodian and delivery method by telephone.

A focused request can identify the person, approximate booking date, and the fields sought. If the record names ICE, USMS, BOP, or another jail as the receiver, follow that agency. If no destination is produced, ask whether it is not retained, closed, or absent from the record and request the legal basis for any denial.
Federal Immigration Records Contact Route
There is no local ICE detention-center contact card because no such facility was identified in Atchison County. The correct contact depends on the receiving authority and current placement. Avoid sending a request to a county office for a later federal event.
ICE custodyStart with the Online Detainee Locator
Follow with the responsible ICE ERO field office
Federal pretrial or transport custody
Use the U.S. Marshals district route and PACER case docket

Each contact should ask one precise question. For ICE, ask whether the person is currently detained, transferred, released, or removed and which office can confirm the event. For USMS, ask where custody responsibility lies. For a federal sentence, ask BOP about the federal record. Keep the Atchison County handoff document with the later response.
No Atchison Immigration Detention Center
No official evidence reviewed identified an ICE detention center or federal prison physically inside Atchison County. That does not rule out temporary federal holds at the county jail or transfers to facilities elsewhere. The facility label describes the custody network that can serve county cases, not a local ICE building.
County Commission reports in 2026 discussed feasibility work for a possible law-enforcement facility. The material did not establish approved construction, funding, opening, closure, or relocation. A later county facility project would not itself become an ICE historical-release archive or a federal prison.
The local facility question should be rechecked over time, but the custody rule stays the same. Identify the operator. County, state, federal prison, immigration, and Marshals records cannot be merged merely because one person moved between them.
Confirm Federal Immigration Release
Build a custody chain rather than relying on one missing name. Start with the Atchison County release event. Record the date, type, destination, and receiving agency. Then check the correct federal source and preserve its exact status wording and date.
For ICE, a current positive locator result establishes reported detention information. A missing result needs ERO confirmation. For USMS, the federal docket and Marshals route explain pretrial custody and transport. For BOP, a “Released” result and date concern BOP custody alone.
The final statement should name the system. “Released from Atchison County to ICE” means a transfer. “No longer in the ICE locator” remains unresolved until confirmed. “Released from BOP” does not answer a later immigration hold. Precise source labels prevent a custody transition from being mistaken for freedom.
